1 House Resolution
2 A resolution honoring the Brandon High School
3 Eagles Wrestling Team for setting a new
4 national record for consecutive dual-meet wins
5 in American high school athletics.

7 WHEREAS, on January 17, 1997, the Brandon High School
8 Eagles Wrestling Team defeated A.P. Leto High School by a
9 score of 73-4, which was the 292nd straight dual-meet win for
10 the team, and
11 WHEREAS, on January 18, 1997, the Brandon High School
12 Eagles extended their streak to 293 straight dual-meet wins by
13 defeating Chamberlain Senior High School by a score of 59-14,
14 and
15 WHEREAS, the victory against A.P. Leto High School tied
16 the national record held by the Amherst, New York Sweet Home
17 High School volleyball team for most consecutive dual-meet
18 wins by any high school team in the United States in any
19 sport, and
20 WHEREAS, the victory against Chamberlain Senior High
21 School established a new national record, removing Amherst's
22 Sweet Home High School from the national record books, and
23 WHEREAS, the record had been set by Sweet Home High
24 School over a nine-year period from 1978 to 1987, and
25 WHEREAS, Brandon High's record-setting streak began in
26 January 1974 under Coach Jim Graves, who retired in 1980 with
27 a record of 97 wins, 11 losses, and one tie, and has continued
28 under the coaching of Russ Cozart, a former coach at
29 Chamberlain, whose dual-meet record at Brandon is 218 wins and
30 no losses, and

1 WHEREAS, the Brandon High School Eagles Wrestling Team
2 won state titles in 1977, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1991, 1992,
3 1993, and 1995, and
4 WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Brandon High School
5 Eagles Wrestling Team is a source of pride for Brandon High
6 School, for the members of the wrestling team from 1974 to
7 present, for their families, for their community, and for the
8 State of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

10 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
11 Florida:

13 That the House of Representatives congratulates and
14 applauds the Brandon High School Eagles Wrestling Team, its
15 coaches and wrestlers, for their outstanding achievements and
16 in particular for establishing a new national record for
17 consecutive dual-meet wins in American high school athletics.
