1 House Resolution
2 A resolution commending Jack M. Berry, Inc.,
3 the Florida Department of Environmental
4 Protection, the South Florida Water Management
5 District, and the United States Environmental
6 Protection Agency for their successful
7 participation in "Project XL."

9 WHEREAS, Project XL is one of the current presidential
10 administration's strategies to provide environmental and
11 public health protection at less cost, and
12 WHEREAS, under the leadership of Secretary Virginia
13 Wetherell and the Florida Department of Environmental
14 Protection, Carol M. Browner and the United States
15 Environmental Protection Agency, the South Florida Water
16 Management District, and all the employees of Jack M. Berry,
17 Inc., a landmark agreement has been reached which reduces
18 costs and simplifies regulatory language in the permit
19 process, and
20 WHEREAS, Jack M. Berry, Inc., a LaBelle, Florida,
21 citrus juice processor, is the first in the nation to sign a
22 final project agreement, which authorizes the development of a
23 "one-stop" comprehensive operating permit, and
24 WHEREAS, the agreement between Jack M. Berry, Inc., the
25 Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the South
26 Florida Water Management District, and the United States
27 Environmental Protection Agency will serve as a model to other
28 companies wishing to have the flexibility to explore
29 innovative solutions to environmental issues, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
2 Florida:

4 That the Florida Legislature supports and urges the
5 continued development and utilization of innovative projects
6 between business and government, such as Project XL, that
7 offer innovative solutions to environmental issues and are
8 designed to provide environmental and health protection at a
9 reduced cost to the citizens of the State of Florida.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
11 be presented to Jack M. Berry, Inc., the Florida Department of
12 Environmental Protection, the South Florida Water Management
13 District, and the United States Environmental Protection
14 Agency in recognition of their successful partnership in
15 Project XL.
