  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the Tallahassee

  3         Community College Eagles basketball team for

  4         winning the 1997 state championship.

  6         WHEREAS, on March 8, 1997, the Tallahassee Community

  7  College Eagles basketball team, ranked number one in the

  8  state, won the state title in a 73-to-72 victory over Florida

  9  Community College-Jacksonville at Johnson Health Center in

10  Marianna, and

11         WHEREAS, under the leadership of Coach Mike Gillespie,

12  the Eagles fought during a rough 2 hours to win the school's

13  first state men's basketball title in the last 6.2 seconds of

14  the game, and

15         WHEREAS, the Eagles, ranked third in the nation, with a

16  32-to-1 record, clinched a spot in the national junior-college

17  tournament that begins March 18 in Hutchinson, Kansas, NOW,

18  THEREFORE,

20  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

21  Florida:

23         That the House of Representatives hereby commends the

24  Tallahassee Community College Eagles basketball team for

25  winning the 1997 state championship.

26         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

27  be presented to Coach Mike Gillespie as a tangible token of

28  the sentiments expressed herein.
