  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the Godby High School

  3         Lady Cougars basketball team for winning the

  4         1997 Class 5A state title.

  6         WHEREAS, on March 8, 1997, the Godby High School Lady

  7  Cougars basketball team won the Class 5A state title in a

  8  75-to-45 victory over Clearwater at Lakeland's George Jenkins

  9  Arena, and

10         WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars, with a 28-to-1 record and

11  ranked number one in the state in Class 5A, won for the 17th

12  time this season by 25 or more points, and

13         WHEREAS, under the leadership of Coach Reggie Davis,

14  the Lady Cougars had the title wrapped up by the third quarter

15  of the game, and

16         WHEREAS, this marked the Lady Cougars' first state

17  championship, as well as Godby's first state title in any

18  girls' sport, NOW, THEREFORE,

20  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

21  Florida:

23         That the House of Representatives hereby commends the

24  Godby High School Lady Cougars basketball team for winning the

25  1997 Class 5A state championship title.

26         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

27  be presented to Coach Reggie Davis as a tangible token of the

28  sentiments expressed herein.
