  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring the Deerfield Beach High

  3         School Boys Basketball Team for winning the

  4         State Class 5A Championship.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Deerfield Beach High School is a respected and

  7  venerable secondary school in Broward County, and

  8         WHEREAS, Deerfield Beach High School has never

  9  previously won a state basketball championship, and

10         WHEREAS, Coach Melvin Randall inspired in his unranked

11  team the will to win, and

12         WHEREAS, on its first try, the Deerfield Beach Bucks

13  compiled a 26-6 record on its way to its first state

14  basketball title, and

15         WHEREAS, the Deerfield Beach Bucks entered that state

16  championship game as decided underdogs against a superb Fort

17  Walton Beach team that was averaging 100 points a game, and

18         WHEREAS, Fort Walton Beach had a 9-point lead with 5

19  minutes and 10 seconds left in the game, and then the

20  Deerfield Beach Bucks made a run, scoring 13 of the next 17

21  points, and

22         WHEREAS, the Deerfield Beach Bucks stunned the number

23  one team in the final seconds of the championship game with a

24  score of 70-66, NOW, THEREFORE,

26  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

27  Florida:

29         That the Florida House of Representatives hereby

30  commends Coach Melvin Randall and the entire boys basketball

31  team of Deerfield Beach High School for their remarkable
