"Buck" Vocelle. 4 5 WHEREAS, Chief Judge L.B. "Buck" Vocelle, a lifetime 6 resident of Vero Beach, was born August 4, 1926, a member of 7 one of Indian River County's pioneer families, and 8 WHEREAS, L.B. Vocelle graduated in 1949, a member of 9 the second men's class at Florida State University, obtained a 10 law degree from the University of Florida in 1952, and joined 11 the practice of his father, James T. Vocelle, one of the 12 founders of Indian River County, and 13 WHEREAS, L.B. Vocelle, who served his state in the 14 House of Representatives from 1956 to 1962, continued to 15 practice law until 1979, when he was appointed by 16 then-Governor Bob Graham to the newly created judgeship of the 17 Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, and 18 WHEREAS, widely respected for his evenhandedness, 19 compassion, and commitment to equal justice under the law, in 20 1993, Judge Vocelle was elected chief judge by his peers in 21 the circuit, a position he would continue to hold until his 22 death on November 30, 1996, and 23 WHEREAS, Judge Vocelle, who cared deeply about children 24 and the future of the nation, which he defended in the Pacific 25 Theater as a teenage Marine in World War II, worked tirelessly 26 in his efforts to help establish the teen court, community 27 arbitration, and family court programs, and 28 WHEREAS, Judge Vocelle is survived by his wife of 29 forty-one years, Kathleen, and four children, L.B.
