2 A resolution paying tribute to Circuit Court
3 Judge Gary L. Formet, Sr.
4
5 WHEREAS, Gary L. Formet, Sr., was born in St.
6 Petersburg and raised in Gary, Indiana, and Sarasota, and
7 WHEREAS, in 1964, Gary Formet married the former Jane
8 Comer, whom he met while they were students at Stetson
9 University, and one son, Gary L. Formet, Jr., was born to the
10 marriage, and
11 WHEREAS, while serving as 1st Lieutenant of an Army
12 platoon in South Vietnam in 1967, Gary Formet stumbled on the
13 trip wire of a hidden land mine while on patrol, and
14 WHEREAS, following the amputation of both legs and a
15 year of recovery and therapy, Gary L. Formet, Sr., was awarded
16 both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, and
17 WHEREAS, Gary L. Formet, Sr., then attended Stetson
18 University College of Law, graduating in 1971 and beginning
19 practice in Orlando, and
20 WHEREAS, in 1979, Gary Formet began his judicial career
21 in Orange County, rising to the position of Circuit Court
22 Judge in 1986, winning the respect of public defenders and
23 prosecutors, and
24 WHEREAS, after a yearlong battle with a terminal
25 illness, the family, friends, and professional associates of
26 Judge Gary L. Formet, Sr., mourn his untimely passing, NOW,
27 THEREFORE,

29 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30 Florida:

1 That the House of Representatives does hereby pause in
2 its deliberations to honor and pay tribute to the memory of
3 Judge Gary L. Formet, Sr., a man respected and loved by his
4 family and many friends and colleagues for his kindness and
5 personal commitment to service and justice in the face of
6 adversity.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
8 be presented to Jane C. Formet as a tangible token of the
9 sentiments expressed herein.
