  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in support of the University of

  3         South Florida Bulls football team in its

  4         inaugural season.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the State of Florida has a rich tradition of

  7  excellence in intercollegiate football competition, and

  8         WHEREAS, the University of Florida, Florida State

  9  University, and the University of Miami have, over the last

10  decade, been consistently ranked at the top of the college

11  football polls conducted by sports writers and coaches, and

12         WHEREAS, a team from a school in the State of Florida

13  has contended for the National Collegiate Football

14  Championship in each of the last six years, with the

15  University of Miami Hurricanes winning the Championship at the

16  1992 Orange Bowl, the Florida State University Seminoles

17  winning the Championship at the 1994 Orange Bowl, and the

18  University of Florida Gators winning the Championship at the

19  1997 Sugar Bowl, and

20         WHEREAS, this year the University of South Florida will

21  join Florida A & M University, the University of Central

22  Florida, Bethune-Cookman College, the University of Miami, the

23  University of Florida, and Florida State University in

24  fielding a competitive NCAA Division I intercollegiate

25  football team, and

26         WHEREAS, the University of South Florida has sold more

27  than 10,000 season tickets, and the Bulls have yet to play

28  their first down, and

29         WHEREAS, the University of South Florida Bulls will be

30  playing their first season of intercollegiate football in

  1  1997, which will be the first full season of intercollegiate

  2  football in the Tampa Bay area in 20 years, NOW, THEREFORE,

  4  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  5  Florida:

  6

  7         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  8  Florida sends its best wishes to the University of South

  9  Florida Bulls football team for a safe, well-played, and

10  winning season in this first year of competition.

11         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Saturday, September 6,

12  1997, is hereby declared "University of South Florida Football

13  Inaugural Game Day."
