1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing Officer William A.
3 Holmes and Judy Deeson for their contributions
4 to their communities and to crime victims.

6 WHEREAS, the 16th Annual Commemoration of National
7 Crime Victims' Rights week will be observed April 13-19, 1997,
8 and
9 WHEREAS, the Office of the Attorney General of Florida
10 is paying special tribute to Officer William A. Holmes as the
11 criminal justice officer and Judy Deeson as the victim
12 advocate who have been credited with exceptional performance
13 in their work on behalf of crime victims in their respective
14 communities, and
15 WHEREAS, Officer William A. Holmes, a police officer
16 with the Pinellas Park Police Department for the past 10
17 years, has demonstrated understanding and a commitment to the
18 challenge of ending domestic violence, and
19 WHEREAS, Officer Holmes spends 30 to 35 hours per month
20 volunteering at a spouse abuse shelter and a supervised
21 visitation center assisting victims of domestic violence file
22 for injunctions for protection, training volunteers, and
23 raising public awareness about domestic violence by speaking
24 to community groups, and
25 WHEREAS, Officer Holmes' desire to give generously of
26 himself and his time is evident in his commitment to helping
27 victims of crime, and
28 WHEREAS, Judy Deeson, Victim Assistance Coordinator in
29 the Indian River County Sheriff's office, has developed,
30 implemented, and nurtured the Victim Assistance Program with
31 selflessness and dedication, and

1 WHEREAS, Ms. Deeson exudes kindness and compassion when
2 involved in crisis intervention, assisting at a crime scene,
3 or grief counseling, and
4 WHEREAS, Ms. Deeson has developed victim memorials and
5 ceremonies and spearheaded advocacy groups locally and
6 statewide, and
7 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the House of
8 Representatives pause and recognize these two outstanding
9 individuals for their work with crime victims in Florida, NOW,
10 THEREFORE,

12 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
13 Florida:
14
15 That the House of Representatives commends Officer
16 William A. Holmes and Judy Deeson for their outstanding
17 contributions to their communities and to crime victims of
18 this state.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
20 be presented to Officer William A. Holmes and Judy Deeson as a
21 tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
