2 A resolution recognizing the 5th annual
3 Caribbean Carnival Tallahassee on August 22-23,
4 1997.

6 WHEREAS, the 5th annual Caribbean Carnival Tallahassee
7 will take place on August 22-23, 1997, and
8 WHEREAS, this event, described as the ultimate
9 Caribbean experience, honoring a diverse tradition of culture,
10 music, and celebration, was first held in 1993, providing a
11 means by which Caribbean natives residing in North Florida may
12 make social, economic, and sociopolitical contributions while
13 promoting cultural diversity, and
14 WHEREAS, in its four years, Caribbean Carnival
15 Tallahassee has attracted over 30,000 people from around the
16 state and nation and from abroad, and
17 WHEREAS, the celebration will open at Capital Commons
18 in an explosion of music and color, featuring live
19 entertainment, children's events, and food and crafts, and the
20 reveling will continue with the Caribbean Nite Dance giving
21 way to the street dance, J'ouvert, and culminating as the
22 parade, in a burst of splendor and magic, makes its way
23 through downtown Tallahassee, and
24 WHEREAS, with the growing popularity of Caribbean music
25 and culture among Americans and the increasing population of
26 Caribbean-Americans, the Carnival will continue to be an
27 anticipated event of joyous celebration, NOW, THEREFORE,

29 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30 Florida:
