  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the newly incorporated

  3         Village of Pinecrest.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, on March 9, 1994, incorporation advocates

  6  Evelyn Langlieb Greer and Gary Matzner met to discuss the

  7  incorporation of Pinecrest, and

  8         WHEREAS, on September 20, 1994, more than 600 residents

  9  met at Palmetto Middle School to discuss the incorporation of

10  Pinecrest, and

11         WHEREAS, on September 19, 1995, Pinecrest voters chose

12  cityhood (3,138 to 1,623), and

13         WHEREAS, on November 21, 1995, the Metropolitan Dade

14  County Board of County Commissioners created and appointed the

15  Pinecrest Charter Commission, and

16         WHEREAS, on March 12, 1996, Pinecrest voters adopted

17  the Village Charter and the Village of Pinecrest became Dade

18  County's 29th municipality, and

19         WHEREAS, on May 1, 1996, Evelyn Langlieb Greer was

20  sworn in as the first mayor and Cindie Blanck, Barry Blaxberg,

21  Leslie Bowe, and Robert Hingston were sworn in as the members

22  of the first Village Council at a ceremony held at Pinecrest

23  Elementary School, and

24         WHEREAS, on June 25, 1996, Guido Inguanzo was appointed

25  the first Village Clerk, and

26         WHEREAS, on July 30, 1996, Peter Lombardi was appointed

27  the first Village Manager, and

28         WHEREAS, on March 15, 1997, the Village of Pinecrest

29  celebrated its first annual Founders' Day Picnic and Parade

30  commemorating the incorporation of the village, and

  1         WHEREAS, during 1997, the Village of Pinecrest will

  2  continue to implement municipal services including police

  3  protection and building and zoning functions, NOW, THEREFORE,

  4

  5  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  6  Florida:

  7

  8         That the House of Representatives hereby recognizes and

  9  commends the Village of Pinecrest for a successful year of

10  incorporation and extends wishes for future success.

11         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

12  be presented to the Village of Pinecrest as a tangible token

13  of the sentiments expressed herein.
