  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution proclaiming April 6, 1997, "Dean

  3         Mitchell Day" in Quincy.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Dean Mitchell, one of America's foremost

  6  painters, is a Quincy native and received his early art

  7  training in Quincy's public schools, where his talent was

  8  apparent at a very young age, and

  9         WHEREAS, encouraged and supported by his grandmother,

10  Marie, Dean Mitchell steadfastly pursued his dream of becoming

11  an artist and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the

12  Columbus College of Art and Design, which in 1994 bestowed on

13  him an honorary master's degree, and

14         WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell, a prolific artist, works well in

15  nearly all media, first choosing, then breathing life and soul

16  into subject matter that personally moves him, whether it be

17  figures, rural and urban landscapes, or still life, and

18         WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell's works are included in the

19  private collections of a number of nationally recognized

20  artists, as well as in corporate, museum, public, and private

21  collections throughout the United States and abroad, and

22         WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell, who has received numerous

23  national and international honors for his accomplishments in

24  the field of fine arts, is also sought after as a commercial

25  illustrator, and has published several books, and

26         WHEREAS, the works of Dean Mitchell will be exhibited

27  simultaneously at the Gadsden Arts Center in Quincy and the

28  LeMoyne Art Foundation in Tallahassee from March 28 through

29  April 27, 1997, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  3

  4         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

  5  deliberations to pay tribute to Quincy native Dean Mitchell,

  6  noted American artist and extraordinary gentleman, and hereby

  7  proclaims April 6, 1997, "Dean Mitchell Day" in Quincy.

  8         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  9  be presented to Dean Mitchell as a tangible token of the

10  sentiments expressed herein.
