Florida House of Representatives - 1997 HR 9191 By Representatives Trovillion, Feeney, Starks, Constantine, Posey, Reddick, Brooks, Sublette and Sindler 1 House Resolution 2 A resolution welcoming the Imperial Tombs of 3 China exhibition to Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, the people of Florida will be privileged to 6 have the Imperial Tombs of China art exhibition at the Orlando 7 Museum of Art from May 2 through September 15, 1997, and 8 WHEREAS, the Orlando Museum of Art, one of only five 9 United States venues to exhibit this collection, will be the 10 final host for the exhibition before it is returned to 11 mainland China, and 12 WHEREAS, this priceless exhibition, covering 2,500 13 years of Chinese art and culture, consists of 250 national 14 treasures, more than 60 percent of which until recently were 15 never permitted outside of China, and will provide a 16 once-in-a-lifetime exposure to Chinese art and culture 17 spanning seven dynasties of Chinese emperors from 500 B.C. to 18 the twentieth century, and 19 WHEREAS, it has been forecast that the Imperial Tombs 20 of China will attract over 400 thousand visitors, with a 21 projected $137 million economic impact on the state, and 22 WHEREAS, this exhibition also marks the opening of the 23 $7.7 million, 30,786 square-foot Phase II renovation and 24 expansion of the Orlando Museum of Art, and 25 WHEREAS, the Imperial Tombs of China exhibition is 26 considered to be the most important Chinese collection ever to 27 be displayed outside of China, NOW, THEREFORE, 28 29 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 30 Florida: 31 1 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions.
