  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Leon Searcy, Jr., of

  3         the Jacksonville Jaguars for his efforts in the

  4         fight against Sickle Cell disease.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Leon Searcy, Jr., is the offensive right

  7  tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football

  8  League where he wears number 72, and

  9         WHEREAS, in addition to his many accomplishments on the

10  football field, Leon Searcy, Jr., has devoted a good deal of

11  his time and efforts to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of

12  America, and

13         WHEREAS, the National Football League announced their

14  selection of Leon Searcy, Jr., as the September 1996 NFL Extra

15  Effort Award winner for his community efforts, especially

16  those directed towards benefiting the fight against Sickle

17  Cell disease, and

18         WHEREAS, in addition to helping with fundraising with

19  the Sickle Cell Foundation, Leon Searcy, Jr., has personally

20  provided gifts, toys, food, and other items to persons

21  confined in the University Medical Center with the Sickle Cell

22  disease, and

23         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the House

24  of Representatives commend Leon Searcy, Jr., for his

25  accomplishments in the fight against Sickle Cell disease, NOW,

26  THEREFORE,

28  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

29  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida hereby commend Leon Searcy, Jr., for his efforts on

  3  behalf of persons afflicted with the Sickle Cell disease and

  4  for his assistance to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of

  5  America.

  6         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  7  be presented to Leon Searcy, Jr., as a tangible token of the

  8  sentiments expressed herein.
