Florida House of Representatives - 1997 HR 9207 By Representative Bullard 1 House Resolution 2 A resolution honoring Thelma Anderson Gibson 3 for her accomplishments and civic and community 4 involvement. 5 6 WHEREAS, Thelma Anderson Gibson was born in Coconut 7 Grove and received her high school education at Carver High in 8 1944, and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gibson received degrees in nursing from 10 Saint Agnes School of Nursing and Teachers College of Columbia 11 University, and 12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gibson's nursing career included serving 13 as a Dade County Public Health Nurse and as a nursing 14 supervisor at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she also served as a 15 part-time social worker and has served as a professional 16 volunteer since her retirement in 1980, and 17 WHEREAS, among her many contributions to the City of 18 Miami, Mrs. Gibson started the T.R. Gibson Unity and 19 Communications Center, named after her late husband, Canon 20 Theodore R. Gibson, and dedicated to fostering unity among 21 Dade County's multi-ethnic community, and 22 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gibson was a founding member of Black 23 Investors of Dade County (BIDCO), the Dade County Women's 24 Chamber of Commerce, and the Jackson Memorial Foundation, and 25 WHEREAS, in addition, Mrs. Gibson has served on 26 numerous civic and county boards and organizations for the 27 betterment of her community, NOW, THEREFORE, 28 29 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 30 Florida: 31 1 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions.
