1 House Resolution
2 A resolution paying tribute to Wallace Chester,
3 Sr.
4
5 WHEREAS, Wallace Chester, Sr., a retired Dade County
6 School educator and one of his community's most beloved
7 residents, was born in Fort Myers, and
8 WHEREAS, after serving his country in the United States
9 Navy during World War II, Mr. Chester enrolled at Florida
10 A & M University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in
11 education and, later, a master's degree and where he met his
12 future wife, Beulah, whom he would marry in 1956, and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Chester distinguished himself as an
14 educator during an exemplary 33-year career, during which he
15 carried out his goal of using the education he had received to
16 teach and encourage his students to achieve, and
17 WHEREAS, serving as a visiting teacher for the Dade
18 County School Board during the last 15 years of his career,
19 Mr. Chester visited truants' homes to determine why they were
20 not in school and often issued money vouchers for eyeglasses,
21 shoes, or other special needs, and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Chester worked in the night education
23 program for the Dorsey Skills Center in Liberty City,
24 preparing students for GED completion, served as a volunteer
25 encouraging participation in the Jackson Memorial Hospital
26 organ donor program, and was a member of the Shriners Kazah
27 Temple No. 149 and a member of the New Way Fellowship Praise
28 and Worship Center, and
29 WHEREAS, Wallace Chester, Sr., will long be remembered
30 for his contributions to education and his service to his
31 community, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
2 Florida:

4 That the House of Representatives hereby pauses in its
5 deliberations to pay tribute to Wallace Chester, Sr.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
7 be presented to Beulah Chester as a tangible token of the
8 sentiments expressed herein.
