  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Reba Engler Daner for

  3         her outstanding contributions to Dade County

  4         and its Public Library System.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Reba Engler Daner, who came to Miami from Key

  7  West with her parents when she was an infant, has devoted a

  8  lifetime of public service to Dade County, and

  9         WHEREAS, many varied institutions have benefited from

10  her devotion and generosity, chief among them the libraries in

11  Dade County, and

12         WHEREAS, as a member of the first graduating class of

13  the University of Miami in 1930 and a graduate of the

14  University of Miami School of Law in 1936, she has been a

15  major benefactor of the University's Law School Library,

16  including generous contributions which added the Reba Engler

17  Daner Wing as well as the Law School's Moot Court Auditorium,

18  and

19         WHEREAS, she was one of the first women to practice law

20  in the City of Miami Beach, thus establishing herself as a

21  role-model for women who admired her leadership in the

22  community, as well as in her professional and family roles,

23  and

24         WHEREAS, during her many years of service on the Board

25  of Trustees of the Miami Beach Public Library, which she

26  chaired from 1958-1985, she played an instrumental role in the

27  development of the total Dade County Public Library System,

28  and provided strong leadership to state and national library

29  support organizations, and

30         WHEREAS, as a member of the Dade County Library

31  Advisory Board she led the way in instituting Bookmobile

  1  service in the unserved sections of Dade County, and her

  2  leadership ultimately created the climate for countywide

  3  library service bringing most municipal libraries into the

  4  system, and

  5         WHEREAS, her untiring efforts and gracious generosity

  6  have immeasurably enriched the lives of the citizens of Dade

  7  County, NOW, THEREFORE,

  9  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

10  Florida:

11

12         That the House of Representatives of the State of

13  Florida hereby commends Reba Engler Daner for her many

14  outstanding civic contributions, particularly for her years of

15  devotion to the Public Library System of Dade County and the

16  State of Florida.

17         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

18  be presented to Reba Engler Daner as a tangible token of the

19  sentiments expressed herein.
