1 House Resolution
2 A resolution in recognition of Joy McCann
3 Culverhouse for her numerous contributions to
4 the advancement of women, to the Tampa Bay
5 community, and to the State of Florida.

7 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse has contributed greatly
8 in her lifetime to the advancement of women, to the Tampa Bay
9 community, and to the people of the State of Florida, and
10 WHEREAS, an intelligent, articulate woman, Joy McCann
11 Culverhouse was, for 52 years, the faithful and supportive
12 wife of the late Hugh Culverhouse Sr., owner of the Tampa Bay
13 Buccaneers, and
14 WHEREAS, the entire Tampa Bay community has benefited
15 from the contributions made by the Culverhouse family in
16 bringing professional athletics to the Tampa Bay area, and
17 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse has demonstrated
18 individual athletic success in many sports, but particularly
19 in the sport of golf, where she has been the winner of 27
20 championships, including a state championship while attending
21 the University of Alabama, and the Florida Women's State
22 Championship, and
23 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse's success in the world
24 of golf exemplifies the dedication, ambition, and internal
25 drive that this remarkable woman brings to all her endeavors,
26 and
27 WHEREAS, in the advancement of women's athletics, Joy
28 McCann Culverhouse has assisted women's athletic programs at
29 colleges throughout the state, including St. Leo College,
30 Flagler College, and Jacksonville University, and

1 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse has also been a
2 promoter of education as the cornerstone of successful
3 communities, donating $7.6 million to the University of South
4 Florida and $2 million to the University of Florida, thus
5 ensuring a solid foundation for our children's future, and
6 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse has generously given
7 $50,000 to each of 37 separate charities, as well as to the
8 United Way for disbursement among ten individual charities,
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse has donated time,
11 effort, and gifts to Tampa General Hospital and University
12 Community Hospital for research in hip joint replacement,
13 which research will undoubtedly help countless individuals for
14 generations to come, and
15 WHEREAS, Joy McCann Culverhouse's love and affection
16 are evident in the nurturing and support she has given to her
17 two children, Hugh Culverhouse, Jr., and Gay Culverhouse, who
18 have both become community leaders, and
19 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the Florida House of
20 Representatives and the Florida Women's Caucus of the Florida
21 House of Representatives acknowledge Joy McCann Culverhouse
22 for her many contributions to this state, NOW, THEREFORE,

24 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25 Florida:

27 That the Florida House of Representatives and the
28 Florida Women's Caucus of the Florida House of Representatives
29 hereby recognizes Joy McCann Culverhouse for her numerous
30 contributions to the people of the State of Florida.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
2 be presented to Joy McCann Culverhouse, to Representative Mary
3 Brennan, President of the Florida Women's Caucus of the
4 Florida House of Representatives, and to Representative
5 Shirley Brown, President of the Florida Women's Caucus
6 Foundation, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
7 herein.
