  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring the Miami Jewish Home and

  3         Hospital for the Aged at Douglas Gardens.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the

  6  Aged at Douglas Gardens is celebrating its 50th Anniversary,

  7  and

  8         WHEREAS, since its beginning in 1945 when the home

  9  provided care for just 23 elderly Jewish widows and widowers

10  in a one-story house, the Miami Jewish Home has grown into the

11  largest nonprofit provider of comprehensive and humanistic

12  geriatric care, services, and programs in the Southeastern

13  United States, and

14         WHEREAS, the Miami Jewish Home has preserved its

15  guiding philosophy of fostering independent living for the

16  elderly with dignity and has continually expanded its dynamic

17  programs and services to meet the diverse needs of Florida's

18  rapidly growing elderly population, and

19         WHEREAS, when describing the Miami Jewish Home, Judge

20  Irving Cypen who has served as Chairman of the Board and

21  Honorary President for more than 40 years says, "This is not

22  where you come to idle away your twilight years, it is where

23  you come to have a second chance at life," and

24         WHEREAS, the Miami Jewish Home today provides a second

25  chance at life for more than 600 residents and an estimated

26  8,000 others through outreach centers and programs throughout

27  the state, and

28         WHEREAS, the Miami Jewish Home has been recognized as

29  an international leader in the field of geriatric care and has

30  evolved into a prototype center which has been toured and

  1  utilized as a resource by gerontology professionals from all

  2  over the world, NOW, THEREFORE,

  3

  4  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  5  Florida:

  6

  7         That the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged at

  8  Douglas Gardens be recognized on this 50th Anniversary of its

  9  operation and be commended for its half-century of achievement

10  in providing comprehensive and humanistic care, services, and

11  programs for the elderly of the State of Florida.

12         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

13  with the Seal of the House of Representatives affixed, be

14  presented to the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged

15  at Douglas Gardens as a tangible token of the sentiments

16  expressed herein.
