  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution proclaiming October 5-13, 1997, as

  3         Miami Caribbean Carnival '97.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, a significant segment of the residents of

  6  Florida draws its heritage from the rich cultures of the

  7  Caribbean, and

  8         WHEREAS, the State of Florida seeks opportunities to

  9  expand cross-cultural appreciation, understanding, and

10  respect, and

11         WHEREAS, international commerce for mutual benefit is

12  enhanced by the bringing together of the peoples of Florida

13  and the Caribbean, and

14         WHEREAS, the Carnival Association of South Florida,

15  Incorporated, (CASFI) has organized a program at Miami Dade

16  Community College, North Campus, to provide an environment for

17  the nurturing, preservation, and expression of Caribbean

18  culture and heritage, and

19         WHEREAS, Miami Caribbean Carnival '97 will be

20  celebrated October 5-13, 1997, affording the residents of

21  Miami an opportunity to gain an appreciation of the many

22  contributions the nations of the Caribbean and their peoples

23  have made to the culture and economic well-being of the State

24  of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

26  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

27  Florida:

29         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

30  deliberations to proclaim October 5-13, 1997, as Miami

31  Caribbean Carnival '97.
