1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to bridge designations;
3 designating an overpass bridge in New Smyrna
4 Beach as the "Martin Luther King, Jr., Bridge";
5 directing the Department of Transportation to
6 erect suitable markers; providing an effective
7 date.

9 WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr., served the people of
10 the United States by leading the fight for racial equality and
11 justice, and
12 WHEREAS, the loss of this great leader was mourned by
13 all Americans regardless of race, and
14 WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the
15 Legislature of the State of Florida honor the memory of Martin
16 Luther King, Jr., NOW, THEREFORE,

18 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

20 Section 1. Martin Luther King, Jr., Bridge designated;
21 Department of Transportation to erect suitable markers.--
22 (1) The State Road 44/U.S. overpass bridge in New
23 Smyrna Beach is hereby designated as the "Martin Luther King,
24 Jr., Bridge."
25 (2) The Department of Transportation shall erect
26 suitable markers designating the "Martin Luther King, Jr.,
27 Bridge" as described in subsection (1) in the following
28 manner:
29 (a) One sign shall be located on the southwest side of
30 the bridge.

1 (b) One sign shall be located on the northeast side of
2 the bridge.
3 (c) Two signs shall be located on the outside facing
4 of the bridge on the south and north sides of the bridge in
5 such a manner as to provide visibility for the northbound and
6 southbound lanes of U.S. 1.
7 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
8 Law.
