  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the Perrine-Cutler

  3         Ridge Council, Inc.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the Perrine-Cutler Ridge Council, Inc., was

  6  created in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, and

  7         WHEREAS, in order to create jobs and strengthen the

  8  economic vitality of the community, the Council's goals have

  9  been to foster a positive image for Perrine and Cutler Ridge,

10  recruit businesses that create quality jobs, enhance local

11  business growth and expansion, and make the community a major

12  competitor in southeast Florida, and

13         WHEREAS, the Council serves as a liaison between

14  business and government and was instrumental in having Perrine

15  and Cutler Ridge designated a state enterprise zone in 1993

16  and in the redesignation of the zone in Dade County in 1995,

17  and

18         WHEREAS, in order to persuade businesses to remain in

19  the area following Hurricane Andrew, to promote the creation

20  of new businesses, and to attract other businesses to the

21  area, the Council has developed an aggressive marketing

22  program, including the media of video and print, an Internet

23  home page, direct mailings, free consultation services and

24  seminars, and information on real estate, loan programs, and

25  financial assistance opportunities, and

26         WHEREAS, in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, the

27  Council created and produced a newspaper to inform the

28  citizens of recovery action and other pertinent information,

29  advocated a temporary library program during the time the

30  public libraries were closed, worked toward cleanup and

  1  restoration, and continues to promote tree planting and

  2  beautification in the area, and

  3         WHEREAS, the Council initiated the construction of a

  4  South Dade Cultural Center and a stadium for high school

  5  football and other sports activities, and

  6         WHEREAS, in 1996, the Council was awarded a group

  7  citation of merit award by the state's International

  8  Association of Personnel in Employment Security for second

  9  place in job creation and retention in the state, and

10         WHEREAS, also in 1996, in a statewide competition

11  judged by the Florida Economic Development Council, the

12  Perrine-Cutler Ridge Council won awards for promotional

13  campaigns in the single print advertisement and audiovisual

14  categories, NOW, THEREFORE,

16  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

17  Florida:

18

19         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

20  deliberations to commend the Perrine-Cutler Ridge Council,

21  Inc., for its contributions to the business and civic life of

22  the communities of Perrine and Cutler Ridge.
