  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Matt Kuchar, winner of

  3         the United States Golf Association's 1997 U.S.

  4         Amateur Championship.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the U.S. Amateur Championship is one of 13

  7  championships conducted annually by the United States Golf

  8  Association, 10 of which are conducted strictly for amateur

  9  golfers, and

10         WHEREAS, on August 24, 1997, 19-year-old Matt Kuchar,

11  of Lake Mary, Florida, won the U.S. Amateur Championship for

12  1997 at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont,

13  Illinois, during his first year of participation in this

14  event, and

15         WHEREAS, Matt Kuchar was one of a record number of

16  6,666 entrants in this year's U.S. Amateur tournament, and

17         WHEREAS, currently a sophomore at Georgia Tech

18  University, Matt Kuchar was a graduate of Seminole High School

19  in Sanford, Florida, and

20         WHEREAS, besides being a three-time Rolex High School

21  Golf All-American, Matt Kuchar was also the Freshman Golfer of

22  the Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and

23         WHEREAS, as the winner of this year's U.S. Amateur

24  Championship, Matt Kuchar will be in possession of the

25  prestigious Havemeyer Trophy for one year, wins an invitation

26  to play in the 1998 Master's Tournament, and receives an

27  exemption into the 1998 U.S. Open and U.S. Open Championship,

28  and

29         WHEREAS, it is fitting that the Florida House of

30  Representatives recognizes Matt Kuchar for this outstanding

31  achievement, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  4         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  5  Florida hereby commends and congratulates Matt Kuchar as the

  6  winner of the United States Golf Association's 1997 U.S.

  7  Amateur Championship.

  8         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  9  be transmitted to Matt Kuchar as a tangible token of the

10  sentiments expressed herein.
