1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing Lockheed Martin for
3 its numerous contributions to the State of
4 Florida.

6 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin is the largest industrial
7 employer in the State of Florida, with some 18,000 employees
8 statewide, and
9 WHEREAS, almost ten percent of Lockheed Martin's
10 worldwide employees work or reside in the State of Florida,
11 and 10,500 retirees from Lockheed Martin reside in Florida,
12 and
13 WHEREAS, with 58 operating locations in Florida and 11
14 major manufacturing centers, Lockheed Martin employees reside
15 in every Congressional district in the state, and
16 WHEREAS, as a key contributor to Florida's economy,
17 Lockheed Martin supports a payroll in excess of $600 million,
18 with annual state taxes of $13 million, expenditures of $575
19 million with Florida-based subcontractors in 1996, and
20 philanthropic grants and contributions of approximately $2
21 million annually, and
22 WHEREAS, among the many endeavors of Lockheed Martin's
23 Florida-based operations which directly benefit the state is
24 Lockheed Martin's involvement in the United Space Alliance
25 launch and recovery operations for the space shuttle, and
26 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin is currently developing, in
27 conjunction with NASA, the next-generation shuttle-type
28 vehicle called "Venture Star," representing a major
29 technological step forward for both government and commercial
30 space launch applications with significant potential for
31 Florida's involvement, and

1 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin has developed world-class
2 technology combined with integration services and expertise to
3 provide real-world simulation and training, and
4 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin's Automated Fingerprint
5 Identification System is being used by the FBI to solve a
6 multitude of criminal cases, and
7 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin's automated test and logistics
8 support equipment has saved government millions of dollars,
9 and
10 WHEREAS, working with the Florida Department of
11 Revenue, Lockheed Martin has collected more than $46 million
12 in overdue child support for custodial parents since 1996, and
13 is currently working to collect an additional 250,000
14 outstanding cases, and
15 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin has been awarded nine
16 contracts statewide in 22 counties to help thousands of
17 Floridians make the transition from welfare to work, and
18 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin will administer Florida's
19 electronic benefit transfer program in which food stamps and
20 cash assistance will be distributed by debit cards, and
21 WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin's Orlando business unit, which
22 develops, manufactures, and supports advanced combat systems,
23 has been designated Lockheed Martin's lead company for
24 research, development, and production of electro-optics and
25 smart munitions systems, and
26 WHEREAS, the State of Florida is fortunate to have
27 enjoyed such a productive and mutually beneficial relationship
28 with Lockheed Martin, a relationship that continues to grow
29 and enrich the lives of the citizens of Florida, and
30 WHEREAS, in recognition of this long and fruitful
31 partnership, Governor Lawton Chiles has issued a proclamation

1 declaring March 12, 1998, as "Lockheed Martin Day in Florida,"
2 and
3 WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the House
4 of Representatives of the State Of Florida recognize Lockheed
5 Martin for its numerous contributions to the state, NOW,
6 THEREFORE,

8 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
9 Florida:

11 That the House of Representatives of the State of
12 Florida hereby recognizes the Lockheed Martin Corporation for
13 its numerous and varied contributions to the State of Florida
14 and its citizens.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
16 be presented to the Lockheed Martin Corporation as a tangible
17 token of the sentiments expressed herein.
