  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution congratulating the Martin County

  3         High School Lady Tigers softball team for

  4         winning the 1997 state championship.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Martin County High School Lady Tigers

  7  softball team accomplished what no other public high school

  8  softball team in Martin County has done, and

  9         WHEREAS, Martin County won the 1997 Class 5A state

10  championship in softball by defeating Inverness-Citrus 1-0 for

11  the Class 5A state title, the title capped the most successful

12  girls' sports year in school history, and

13         WHEREAS, this year's Lady Tigers varsity softball team

14  averaged more than seven runs per game, but that was below

15  Martin County's 8-2 clip in 1994, the first year of their fast

16  pitch program, and

17         WHEREAS, Martin County finished 32-1, with the best

18  record in the state regardless of their classification, the

19  Lady Tigers outscored their opponents in seven of their

20  playoff games, beating five top-10 teams, and

21         WHEREAS, Coach Lori Miller, who has been coaching for

22  12 years, attributes the team's first softball state

23  championship to discipline, hard work, and organization, and

24         WHEREAS, the members of the Martin County High School

25  Lady Tigers softball team, their coaches, and their

26  cheerleaders are to be commended for this great accomplishment

27  and stellar example of dedication, discipline, and teamwork,

28  NOW, THEREFORE,

30  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

31  Florida:

  1         That the Florida House of Representatives hereby

  2  commends the Martin County High School Lady Tigers softball

  3  team for winning the 1997 Class 5A state championship, and

  4  applauds the outstanding efforts of the team's members,

  5  coaches, and cheerleaders in making such a superlative season

  6  possible.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  8  be presented to the coach of Martin County High School as a

  9  tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
