  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in recognition of the Chiefland

  3         High School Indians football team, winners of

  4         the 1997 State 2A Football Championship.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the 1997 Chiefland High School Indians

  7  football team overcame difficult odds and a tough schedule to

  8  continue a winning tradition for Chiefland High School, and

  9         WHEREAS, the Indians completed their regular season

10  with a record of 8-2 and continued on to postseason play in

11  the State Division 2A playoffs, and

12         WHEREAS, the Chiefland Indians won five playoff games,

13  beating First Academy, 55-7; Fort Meade, 32-19; Northwest

14  Christian, 47-20; Moore Haven, 41-26; and Lafayette, 49-28,

15  thereby capturing the Class 2A Florida High School Football

16  Championship, and

17         WHEREAS, the team rose from being unranked to being the

18  undisputed champions in their division, and had tremendous fan

19  support along the way from the citizens of Chiefland and Levy

20  County, with over 4,500 fans in attendance at the Indians'

21  final game, thus setting an all-time record for attendance at

22  a Division 2A championship game, and

23         WHEREAS, this accomplishment has brought pride and joy

24  to the students, faculty, and staff of Chiefland High School,

25  as well as to the citizens of Chiefland and Levy County, and

26         WHEREAS, team members Tommy Arrington, Zack Coston,

27  Jared Gore, Shane Ingram, Doug Prevatt, Corey Tyson, Shawn

28  Watkins, Gordon Bickel, Byron Dawson, Mike Graham, Jarret

29  Johnson, Travis Richardson, Ryan Tyson, Danny Wilson, David

30  Burney, David Fisher, John Guyton, Brian Norris, Matt Roach,

31  Coltt Valentine, Jeff Carson, Jeremy Gentry, Joey Ice, Gerold

  1  Pitts, Rob Studstill, and Keith Vogel, as well as Head Coach

  2  Jim O'Neal, assistant coaches Randy Fuller, Wes Lackey, Brian

  3  Gore, Don Lawrence, Sam Holland, and Chad Holmes are all to be

  4  commended for their championship season, NOW, THEREFORE,

  6  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  7  Florida:

  9         That the House of Representatives of the State of

10  Florida hereby recognizes and offers its congratulations to

11  the Chiefland High School Indians football team, winners of

12  the 1997 Division 2A State High School Football Championship.

13         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

14  be presented to Head Coach Jim O'Neal as a tangible token of

15  the sentiments expressed herein.
