2 A resolution recognizing William A. Wynn, Jr.

4 WHEREAS, William Austin Wynn, Jr., was born on November
5 6, 1935, in Sanford, Florida, and
6 WHEREAS, William A. Wynn, Jr., attended Crooms Academy
7 in Sanford and Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, and
8 WHEREAS, following graduate studies at New York
9 University, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of
10 Miami, William A. Wynn, Jr., embarked upon a professional
11 career which was consistently centered in the area of
12 community development and in which he became not only an
13 accomplished businessman, but also an active participant in
14 civic, educational, and economic endeavors, and
15 WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments, William A.
16 Wynn, Jr., served as Director of Agency Operations for the
17 United Way of Dade County and then served as Vice President of
18 Development for the United Way of America, the first
19 African-American to hold that position, and
20 WHEREAS, William A. Wynn, Jr., served as Director of
21 Neighborhood Services for the Economic Opportunities Program
22 and as Chairman of the Economic Development Committee of the
23 Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and
24 WHEREAS, William A. Wynn, Jr., served as Chairman of
25 the International Development and Tourism Committee for the
26 Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce, Executive Vice President of
27 the Greater Miami Coalition, and as a consultant to the White
28 House Center for Voluntary Action, and
29 WHEREAS, William A. Wynn, Jr., also served as Honorary
30 Consul for Barbados, Director and Chair of the Audit Committee
31 for Bethune-Cookman College, President of the Board of Florida

1 Memorial College, member of the Florida Human Relations
2 Commission, President of the OIC Foundation, Director of the
3 Dade Savings & Loan Association, member of the Governor's
4 Council on Criminal Justice, Vice Chair of the Edison
5 Center/Model City Merchants Association, and Advisory
6 Committee Officer for the University of Miami School of
7 Business, and
8 WHEREAS, in 1974, William A. Wynn, Jr., founded Afro
9 Carribean Import/Export, Inc., and served as its president and
10 CEO until the time of his death, and
11 WHEREAS, William A. Wynn, Jr., died on July 7, 1997,
12 leaving behind a legacy of commitment to community service and
13 development, NOW, THEREFORE,

15 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
16 Florida:

18 That the House of Representatives of the State of
19 Florida hereby recognizes William A. Wynn, Jr., for his
20 commitment to community service and development.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
22 be presented to the wife of William A. Wynn, Jr., Evelyn Wynn,
23 and to his son, Dwayne Wynn, as a tangible token of the
24 sentiments expressed herein.
