  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the week of November

  3         15-21, 1998, as "Florida Storytelling Week."

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the art of storytelling is a valuable method

  6  of sharing American folklore and contributes to the historical

  7  knowledge of our state, and

  8         WHEREAS, the art of storytelling contributes to the

  9  self-esteem of students as they learn the state's folklore and

10  share their stories with the community, and

11         WHEREAS, the art of storytelling is a vibrant part of

12  our living history involving many storytellers and exposing

13  countless students and citizens to its values, and

14         WHEREAS, the art of storytelling embraces the history

15  and lore of diverse cultures, including Native American,

16  African-American, Caribbean, and Western European, as well as

17  native Floridian, and exposes all Floridians to the richness

18  of our differences while fostering understanding through

19  knowledge, and

20         WHEREAS, the Florida Storytellers Guild, Inc., consists

21  of numerous storytellers in 5 regions throughout the state,

22  who preserve, perpetuate, and promote the art of storytelling

23  in Florida by educating and encouraging storytellers for the

24  entertainment and edification of listeners, allowing

25  individuals and cultures to sense the value of sharing

26  stories, NOW, THEREFORE,

28  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

29  Florida:

  1         That the Florida House of Representatives does hereby

  2  proclaim the week of November 15-21, 1998, to be "Florida

  3  Storytelling Week."

  4         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  5  be presented to Florida Storytellers Guild, Inc., Myra Davis,

  6  Administrator as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed

  7  herein.
