  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commemorating the 150th

  3         anniversary of Steifel Laboratories of Coral

  4         Gables.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, in 1847 the Steifel Family of Germany, makers

  7  of soap and candles, began making specialty products for the

  8  skin, and

  9         WHEREAS, in 1945 August C. Steifel and his sons, Werner

10  and Herbert, opened their first manufacturing facility in this

11  country, in Oak Hill, New York, and

12         WHEREAS, expanding internationally, Steifel

13  Laboratories established its first offshore venture in Puerto

14  Rico in 1962, followed by other subsidiaries worldwide, and

15         WHEREAS, with headquarters in Coral Gables, the company

16  is now a significant global manufacturing and distribution

17  organization, providing products to more than 100 countries,

18  and

19         WHEREAS, Steifel Laboratories is recognized for its

20  innovative technology in the development of products for the

21  treatment of skin conditions, and

22         WHEREAS, this technology has led to many "firsts,"

23  including the introduction of benzoyl peroxide, the first

24  effective treatment for acne, and

25         WHEREAS, a focus on the biology of skin has helped make

26  Steifel Laboratories the largest dermatology specialty company

27  in the world, with over 100 products, NOW, THEREFORE,

29  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

30  Florida:

  1         That the Florida House of Representatives hereby honors

  2  and congratulates Steifel Laboratories for 150 years of

  3  outstanding service and commitment to the skin and its health,

  4  and accords this expression in recognition of its invaluable

  5  endeavors.

  6         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  7  be presented to the Chief Executive Officer of Steifel

  8  Laboratories, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed

  9  herein.
