  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring B. Lee Elam, recipient of

  3         the 1997 Key Citizen Award from the Greater

  4         Brandon Chamber of Commerce.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, for many years B. Lee Elam has been an active

  7  leader in numerous civic organizations in the City of Brandon,

  8  serving as President and as a member of the Board of Directors

  9  of the local American Cancer Society, as a member of the Board

10  of Directors of the Palm River Volunteer Fire Department, and

11  serving the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce in various

12  capacities, and

13         WHEREAS, Mr. Elam helped to establish a permanent

14  Hillsborough Community College in Brandon, served as a Trustee

15  for the college, directed the Brandon Area Scholarship Fund

16  for several years, and served as Trustee for Brandon Hospital,

17  and

18         WHEREAS, in addition to his private law practice, Mr.

19  Elam has been active in the legal community, and his volunteer

20  legal activities have greatly benefited many local

21  organizations, including churches, schools, sports teams, and

22  the Farmworkers Outreach Clinic, and

23         WHEREAS, in recognition of his tireless efforts on

24  behalf of the Brandon community and his unselfish devotion to

25  its progress in so many areas, the Greater Brandon Chamber of

26  Commerce awarded Mr. Elam its prestigious Key Citizen Award

27  for 1997, NOW, THEREFORE,

29  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

30  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida hereby commends B. Lee Elam for his outstanding

  3  service to the citizens of the City of Brandon, and joins in

  4  honoring him as the recipient of the 1997 Key Citizen Award.

  5         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  6  be presented to B. Lee Elam as a tangible token of the

  7  sentiments expressed herein.
