  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to grand juries; amending s.

  3         905.01, F.S.; increasing the number of persons

  4         serving on grand juries; providing an effective

  5         date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 905.01, Florida

10  Statutes, is amended to read:

11         905.01  Number and procurement of grand jury;

12  replacement of member.--

13         (1)  The grand jury shall consist of not fewer than 15

14  or more than 21 18 persons.  The provisions of law governing

15  the qualifications, disqualifications, excusals, drawing,

16  summoning, supplying deficiencies, compensation, and

17  procurement of petit jurors apply to grand jurors.  In

18  addition, no elected public official is eligible for service

19  on a grand jury.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.
