  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Chief Apostle Bishop

  3         Moses Baker for his many years of service as

  4         the Presiding Prelate of the Holy Churches of

  5         the Living God, Inc.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the

  8  founding of the Holy Churches of the Living God, Inc., which

  9  maintains its current headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida,

10  and

11         WHEREAS, the Holy Churches of the Living God, Inc., is

12  one of the first Sabbath-keeping churches in the United

13  States, and

14         WHEREAS, Bishop Moses Baker joined his wife, who later

15  became the First Lady-Elect, Lucille Dobson Baker, as a member

16  of the Holy Church of The Living God, Inc., in Jacksonville

17  during the early 1940's under the then-Pastor Mother Daisy

18  Larkins and served faithfully under the leadership of Mother

19  Larkins and was later ordained an Elder in the church, and

20         WHEREAS, Bishop Moses Baker was appointed Pastor in

21  1945, and

22         WHEREAS, the church had several locations; namely,

23  Blanch & Union Streets, 27th & Stuart Street, 1575 W. 6th

24  Street, before settling into its existing location at 1598

25  West 14th Street in Jacksonville, and the first service was

26  held in the new church April 25, 1949, and the church was

27  later to become the National Headquarters of the Holy Churches

28  of The Living God, Inc., and

29         WHEREAS, Bishop Baker was ordained to the Bishopric

30  August 28, 1949, during the Annual Holy Convocation held in

31  New York City by Chief Apostle and Presiding Prelate Bishop

  1  Alaska Augusta Smith, and upon the death of Bishop Smith

  2  following the Annual Holy Convocation of 1949, Bishop Moses

  3  Baker was appointed by the board as his successor at the next

  4  Annual Holy Convocation held August 20-27, 1950, in

  5  Jacksonville, Florida, and

  6         WHEREAS, as Presiding Prelate of the Holy Churches of

  7  the Living God, Inc., Chief Apostle Bishop Moses Baker has

  8  guided the church through many changes in over four decades of

  9  spiritual service, and

10         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the House

11  of Representatives of the State of Florida commend Chief

12  Apostle Bishop Moses Baker for his many years of service as

13  the Presiding Prelate of the Holy Churches of the Living God,

14  Inc., NOW, THEREFORE,

16  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

17  Florida:

19         That the House of Representatives of the State of

20  Florida hereby commends Chief Apostle Bishop Moses Baker for

21  his many years of service as the Presiding Prelate of the Holy

22  Churches of the Living God, Inc., and wishes him continued

23  health and good fortune in all his future endeavors.

24         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

25  be presented to Chief Apostle Bishop Moses Baker as a tangible

26  token of the sentiments expressed herein.
