  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Mrs. Odessa Johnson.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Mrs. Odessa Johnson, a Polk County teacher of

  5  severely disabled children, is one of ten national recipients

  6  of the 1998 Reader's Digest American Heroes in Education

  7  Award, and

  8         WHEREAS, Mrs. Odessa Johnson, who teaches at the Polk

  9  Life and Learning Center, was selected from over 700 educators

10  from across the country, and

11         WHEREAS, the Reader's Digest American Heroes in

12  Education Awards is a program to honor outstanding educators

13  whose vision, determination, and extraordinary effort enable

14  youngsters to succeed, and

15         WHEREAS, through her innovative thematic and

16  multisensory approach to teaching, Mrs. Johnson provides a

17  stimulating atmosphere in which practical and functional life

18  skills are interwoven, and

19         WHEREAS, the progress made by her students is due to

20  Mrs. Johnson's compassionate heart, expertise, tenacity, and

21  desire to make a difference, NOW, THEREFORE,

23  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

24  Florida:

26         That Mrs. Odessa Johnson is hereby honored for her

27  dedication and outstanding achievements.

28         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

29  be presented to Mrs. Odessa Johnson as a tangible token of the

30  sentiments expressed herein.
