  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in recognition of Josue Rodriguez,

  3         Broward County Teacher of the Year.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Josue Rodriguez, an accomplished musician who

  6  wanted to share his love of music with children with special

  7  needs, has been teaching music to exceptional students at

  8  Bright Horizons School in Pompano Beach for the past nine

  9  years, and

10         WHEREAS, from the age of ten, Mr. Rodriguez worked

11  toward becoming a successful musician, and

12         WHEREAS, through hard work and dedication he attained

13  that goal, traveling with some of the greatest Latin American

14  artists to Europe, South America, and the Caribbean, and

15         WHEREAS, after receiving a Master of Arts degree in

16  music education from Ohio State University and becoming

17  certified in music therapy at Florida State University, Mr.

18  Rodriguez focused his attention to teaching, and

19         WHEREAS, as a music teacher, Mr. Rodriguez has a

20  first-hand understanding of the power music has over people

21  and the benefits that can be derived from using music as a

22  therapeutic tool, and

23         WHEREAS, besides the academic achievement of his

24  students, Mr. Rodriguez stresses the development of character

25  and personality, teaches the value of discipline, dedication,

26  and determination, and nurtures his students' self esteem by

27  creating a healthy learning environment where everyone can

28  succeed, and

29         WHEREAS, his colleagues and principal praise him for

30  his innate ability to communicate and assess the special needs

31  of his students in order to meet their challenges, and

  1         WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez inspires students and staff

  2  alike with his dedication, energy, and creative approaches to

  3  instruction, and

  4         WHEREAS, not only is Mr. Rodriguez superior in his

  5  subject area, but his classroom is a model for the Sunshine

  6  State Standards, and

  7         WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez exactly fits the profile of what

  8  educators, parents, and policymakers believe the teacher of

  9  the 21st Century must be - one who understands the changing

10  role of the classroom teacher and accepts and respects the

11  diversity of all students, and

12         WHEREAS, he is an outstanding ambassador for the

13  teaching profession and for education in the State of Florida,

14  and

15         WHEREAS, in being named Broward County Teacher of the

16  Year, Josue Rodriguez becomes Broward County's candidate for

17  Florida Teacher of the Year for 1999, NOW, THEREFORE,

18

19  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

20  Florida:

21

22         That the House of Representatives of the State of

23  Florida hereby recognizes and commends Josue Rodriguez,

24  Broward County Teacher of the Year.

25         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

26  be presented to Josue Rodriguez as a tangible token of the

27  sentiments expressed herein.
