  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution in recognition of Munroe Regional

  3         Medical Center of Ocala on its 100th

  4         anniversary.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, a

  7  323-bed not-for-profit acute care hospital, was founded

  8  through the efforts of business people and physicians in 1898,

  9  and

10         WHEREAS, originally the Marion Surgical Hospital, the

11  Munroe Regional Medical Center is the fourth oldest hospital

12  in Florida, and

13         WHEREAS, Munroe Regional Medical Center began as and

14  continues to be a community-owned and community-supported

15  hospital that receives no direct tax funding, and

16         WHEREAS, the hospital has grown from two rooms on the

17  third floor of a newspaper building into the major medical

18  complex it is today, providing medical care to patients

19  without regard to race, religion, national origin, or

20  financial status, and

21         WHEREAS, Munroe Regional Medical Center has been

22  involved in community projects which include providing nurses

23  to Marion County public schools, being a major supporter of

24  Community Health Services, an episodic health care provider

25  for the financially disadvantaged, and other community health

26  education and treatment programs, and

27         WHEREAS, the hospital was instrumental in bringing a

28  major cardiac surgery and invasive cardiology program to the

29  North Central Florida area, and

30         WHEREAS, Munroe Regional Medical Center established the

31  Neuroscience Center, which is listed by the National Stroke

  1  Association as one of the top 25 stroke treatment centers in

  2  the nation, and

  3         WHEREAS, through its ambulance service and emergency

  4  department, Munroe Regional Medical Center is one of the major

  5  providers of emergency care in the Ocala area, and

  6         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the Florida

  7  House of Representatives honor Munroe Regional Medical Center

  8  on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, NOW, THEREFORE,

  9

10  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

11  Florida:

12

13         That the House of Representatives of the State of

14  Florida hereby commends Munroe Regional Medical Center for

15  providing the citizens of North Central Florida with a century

16  of high-quality health care, and congratulates Munroe Regional

17  Medical Center on its 100th anniversary.

18         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

19  be presented to Munroe Regional Medical Center as a tangible

20  token of the sentiments expressed herein.
