  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution congratulating the Brandon High

  3         School Future Farmers of America Horticulture

  4         Team.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Brandon High School Future Farmers of

  7  America Horticulture Team walked away with first place in the

  8  state Ornamental Horticulture Contest held on March 2, 1998,

  9  at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando, and

10         WHEREAS, the team, led by its teacher and advisor,

11  Dennis Mayo, was among 51 competing teams from schools

12  throughout the state, and

13         WHEREAS, the competition consisted of identifying

14  plants and grading them for quality, identifying insects, and

15  taking a written test, and

16         WHEREAS, the team, made up of Emily Baxter, Lori

17  Carter, Laurie Ranneklev, and Emily Williams, identified 300

18  out of over 400 plants displayed, including trees, shrubs,

19  flowers, and foliage plants, and

20         WHEREAS, the team will represent Florida in competition

21  at the National Future Farmers of America Convention in Kansas

22  City, Missouri, on November 12-14, 1998, and

23         WHEREAS, inasmuch as the format of the national

24  competition will center on the floriculture industry,

25  necessitating a change in the focus of the team to another

26  area of expertise, NOW, THEREFORE,

28  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

29  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives hereby pauses in its

  2  deliberations to congratulate the Brandon High School Future

  3  Farmers of America Horticulture Team for its victory in the

  4  state Ornamental Horticulture Contest and to extend its best

  5  wishes and encouragement as the members prepare for and

  6  participate in the national competition in November.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  8  be presented to the Brandon High School Future Farmers of

  9  America Horticulture Team as a tangible token of the

10  sentiments expressed herein.
