  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the City of Jacksonville,

  3         Duval County; repealing chapter 89-509, Laws of

  4         Florida; abolishing the Jacksonville Sports

  5         Development Authority; amending chapter 97-339,

  6         Laws of Florida; replacing the Chairman of the

  7         Jacksonville Sports Development Authority with

  8         the Chairman of the Sports and Entertainment

  9         Board as an ex officio advisor to the

10         Jacksonville Economic Development Commission;

11         providing an effective date.

13         WHEREAS, in 1989, the Jacksonville Sports Development

14  Authority was created by chapter 89-509, Laws of Florida, and

15         WHEREAS, in 1997, virtually all powers and duties of

16  the Jacksonville Sports Development Authority were transferred

17  to the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission by chapter

18  97-339, Laws of Florida, and

19         WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jacksonville

20  in Ordinance 98-836 has created a Sports and Entertainment

21  Board to serve in an advisory capacity to the Jacksonville

22  Economic Development Commission, NOW, THEREFORE,

24  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

25

26         Section 1.  Chapter 89-509, Laws of Florida, as amended

27  by chapter 97-339, Laws of Florida, is repealed.

28         Section 2.  Subsection (5) of section 24.04 of the

29  Charter of the City of Jacksonville, as created by section 2

30  of chapter 97-339, Laws of Florida, is amended to read:

  1         Section 24.04  Individual Ex Officio Advisors to the

  2  commission.--The following individual ex officio advisors are

  3  named to assist the commission in an advisory or fact-finding

  4  role as may be requested individually or collectively of them

  5  by the commission so as to effectuate the centralized economic

  6  development goals of the commission. No ex officio advisor

  7  shall serve simultaneously as both an ex officio advisor and

  8  as an appointed member of the commission. These individual ex

  9  officio advisors shall be:

10         (5)  The Chairman of the Sports and Entertainment Board

11  Sports Development Authority.

12         Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

13  law.
