  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution urging public support for quality

  3         child care.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, March 16, 1999 has been designated as

  6  Children's Day by the Florida Legislature, and

  7         WHEREAS, choosing quality child care is an important

  8  children's issue, and

  9         WHEREAS, a positive loving relationship between a

10  provider and the child is essential for the delivery of

11  quality child care, and

12         WHEREAS, it is important that parents choose a provider

13  whose style and attitudes are similar to their own, and

14         WHEREAS, quality child care programs should include

15  age-appropriate materials to help children learn and grow;

16  activities encouraging children to think creatively; time for

17  children to work as a group and time to play alone; and the

18  posting of schedules by the provider, and

19         WHEREAS, physical environment is a critical component

20  of quality child care because it affects children's safety,

21  health, and development, and

22         WHEREAS, a provider must provide enough adults for the

23  number and age of children in a group to ensure quality, and

24         WHEREAS, quality child care facilities must be

25  cheerful, clean, and equipped with adequate materials, and

26         WHEREAS, all children need the same things, and

27  recognizing that each child sees things in a different way, it

28  is important to see quality child care through a child's eyes,

29  NOW, THEREFORE,

31  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  1         That all residents of this state are encouraged to

  2  support quality child care, and parents are especially

  3  encouraged to visit programs more than once at different times

  4  over several days before selecting a child care provider.
