3 627.672, F.S.; redefining the term "Medicare
4 supplement policy" for purposes of the Florida
5 Medicare Supplement Reform Act; providing an
6 effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 627.672, Florida
11 Statutes, is amended to read:
12 627.672 Definitions.--For the purposes of ss.
13 627.671-627.675:
14 (1) A "Medicare supplement policy" is a health
15 insurance policy or other health benefit plan offered by a
16 private entity to individuals who are entitled to have
17 payments for health care costs made under Medicare, Title
18 XVIII of the Social Security Act ("Medicare"), as presently
19 constituted and as may later be amended, which provides
20 reimbursement for expenses incurred for services and items for
21 which payment may be made under Medicare but which expenses
22 are not reimbursable by reason of the applicability of
23 deductibles, coinsurance amounts, or other limitations imposed
24 by Medicare. The term does not include any such policy or plan
25 of one or more employers or labor organizations, or of the
26 trustees of a fund established by one or more employers or
27 labor organizations, or a combination thereof, for employees
28 or former employees, or a combination thereof, or for members
29 or former members, or a combination thereof, of the labor
30 organizations.
31 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
