  2         An act relating to specialty license plates;

  3         amending ss. 320.08056 and 320.08058, F.S.;

  4         providing for a United States Marine Corps

  5         specialty license plate; providing fees;

  6         providing for the disposition of fees;

  7         providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (z) is added to subsection (4) of

12  section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, to read:

13         320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

14         (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall

15  be collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

16         (z)  United States Marine Corps license plate, $15.

17         Section 2.  Subsection (26) is added to section

18  320.08058, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, to read:

19         320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

20         (26)  UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS LICENSE PLATES.--

21         (a)  The department shall develop a United States

22  Marine Corps license plate as provided in this section. The

23  word "Florida" must appear at the top center of the plate, and

24  the words "First to Fight" must appear at the bottom center of

25  the plate. The United States Marine Corps logo, 3 inches in

26  diameter, must appear on the left side centered top to bottom

27  of the plate in proper colors.

28         (b)  The department shall distribute the United States

29  Marine Corps license plate annual use fees in the following

30  manner:

  1         1.  The first $50,000 collected annually shall be

  2  deposited in the State Homes for Veterans Trust Fund and must

  3  be used solely for the purpose of constructing, operating, and

  4  maintaining domiciliary and nursing homes for veterans subject

  5  to the requirements of chapter 216.

  6         2.  Any additional fees collected annually shall be

  7  deposited in the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Inc.,

  8  successor to the USMV Tag/Scholarship Fund, Inc., which shall

  9  use the fees to fund scholarships and assist Marine Corps

10  Junior ROTC programs of this state. The foundation shall

11  develop a plan to distribute the funds to recipients nominated

12  by residents of the state to receive scholarships, and to the

13  Marine Corps Junior ROTC programs in the state.

14         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
