  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to postsecondary education fee

  3         terminology; amending s. 228.041, F.S.;

  4         revising definitions relating to postsecondary

  5         student fee terminology; directing that changes

  6         in terminology in statutes be made; providing

  7         an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10

11         Section 1.  Subsections (32) and (33) of section

12  228.041, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, are amended to

13  read:

14         228.041  Definitions.--Specific definitions shall be as

15  follows, and wherever such defined words or terms are used in

16  the Florida School Code, they shall be used as follows:

17         (32)  IN-STATE TUITION MATRICULATION FEE.--The basic

18  fee charged to a Florida resident, as defined pursuant to s.

19  240.1201, student for instruction provided by a public

20  postsecondary educational institution in this state.  A charge

21  for any other purpose shall not be included within this fee.

22         (33)  OUT-OF-STATE TUITION.--The additional fee for

23  instruction provided by a public postsecondary educational

24  institution in this state, which fee is charged to a

25  non-Florida student as defined in rules of the State Board of

26  Education, the State Board of Community Colleges, or the Board

27  of Regents.  A charge for any other purpose shall not be

28  included within this fee.

29         Section 2.  The Division of Statutory Revision of the

30  Office of Legislative Services, shall prepare a reviser's bill

31  to change the following terminology wherever it is appropriate

  1  to do so in statute:  the term "matriculation fee" to the term

  2  "in-state tuition" and the term "tuition" to the term

  3  "out-of-state tuition."

  4         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
