  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to courses of study; amending

  3         s. 233.061, F.S.; authorizing certain

  4         exemptions from required reproductive health or

  5         AIDS instructional activities; providing an

  6         effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (4) is added to section 233.061,

11  Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, to read:

12         233.061  Required instruction.--

13         (4)  Any student whose parent makes written request to

14  the school principal shall be exempt from reproductive health

15  or AIDS instructional activities, as requested. Curriculum

16  frameworks for comprehensive health education shall not

17  interfere with the local determination of appropriate

18  curriculum which reflects local values and concerns.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

20  law.

      Authorizes student exemption from required reproductive
25    health or AIDS instructional activities upon written
      request of the student's parent.  Specifies that
26    curriculum frameworks for comprehensive health education
      shall not interfere with the local determination of
