  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution commending the osteopathic

  3         physicians of this state and recognizing March

  4         24, 1999, as Osteopathic Medicine Day.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide health care

  7  services that account for more than 100 million patient visits

  8  in this country each year, and

  9         WHEREAS, this state has nine accredited osteopathic

10  hospitals, an osteopathic medical college, and the fourth

11  largest osteopathic physician population in the United States,

12  and

13         WHEREAS, since 1990, the number of active osteopathic

14  physicians in this state has increased by 47 percent, and

15         WHEREAS, osteopathic manipulation of the

16  musculoskeletal system is a viable and proven technique for

17  many diagnoses and treatments and provides an alternative to

18  many drug therapies, and

19         WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide comprehensive

20  medical care, including preventive medicine, diagnoses, and

21  the appropriate use of drugs, surgery, manipulation, and

22  hospital referrals, NOW, THEREFORE,

24  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

25

26         That the Florida Senate commends the osteopathic

27  physicians of this state for their contributions to the health

28  and welfare of the residents of this state and recognizes

29  March 24, 1999, as Osteopathic Medicine Day.
