  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to postsecondary education fee

  3         terminology; amending s. 228.041, F.S.;

  4         revising definitions relating to postsecondary

  5         student fee terminology; directing that changes

  6         in terminology in statutes be made; providing

  7         an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsections (32) and (33) of section

12  228.041, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, are amended to

13  read:

14         228.041  Definitions.--Specific definitions shall be as

15  follows, and wherever such defined words or terms are used in

16  the Florida School Code, they shall be used as follows:

17         (32)  TUITION MATRICULATION FEE.--The basic fee charged

18  to a student for instruction provided by a public

19  postsecondary educational institution in this state.  A charge

20  for any other purpose shall not be included within this fee.

21         (33)  NONRESIDENT FEE TUITION.--The additional fee for

22  instruction provided by a public postsecondary educational

23  institution in this state, which fee is charged to a

24  non-Florida student as defined in rules of the State Board of

25  Education, the State Board of Community Colleges, or the Board

26  of Regents.  A charge for any other purpose shall not be

27  included within this fee.

28         Section 2.  In editing manuscript for the next edition

29  of the official Florida Statutes, the Division of Statutory

30  Revision of the Office of Legislative Services, or its

31  successor, in furtherance of the intent of this act and unless

  1  the context indicates otherwise, shall revise the following

  2  terminology wherever it appears in statute:  "matriculation

  3  fee" shall become "tuition" and "tuition" shall become

  4  "nonresident fee."

  5         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
