1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to Orange County; requiring the
3 School Board of Orange County to submit to the
4 electors of the county school district at a
5 specified referendum the question of whether
6 the district school board shall consist of
7 seven members, each to be elected from a
8 single-member residence area by electors
9 residing in that residence area only; requiring
10 the district school board to provide for the
11 orderly transition to such election of district
12 school board members, if approved, as the terms
13 of incumbent district school board members
14 expire, beginning with a specified general
15 election; providing an effective date.

17 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

19 Section 1. (1) The School Board of Orange County
20 shall submit to the electors of the county school district for
21 approval or rejection at a referendum in conjunction with the
22 2000 presidential preference primary the question of whether
23 the district school board shall be composed of seven members,
24 each to be elected from a single-member residence area by
25 electors residing in the single-member residence area only,
26 notwithstanding the provisions of s. 230.061, s. 230.10, or s.
27 230.105, Florida Statutes.
28 (2) If the electors approve such election of district
29 school board members, the seven single-member residence areas
30 must be drawn by the district school board, and the district
31 school board shall provide for the orderly transition to such

1 election of district school board members as the terms of
2 incumbent district school board members expire, beginning with
3 the general election in November 2000.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
5 law.
