  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act providing for liens in favor of

  3         operators of hospitals in Palm Beach County;

  4         amending ch. 57-1688, Laws of Florida;

  5         providing that operators of nonpublic hospitals

  6         have the same lien as do operators of public

  7         hospitals; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Section 1 of chapter 57-1688, Laws of

12  Florida, is amended to read:

13         Section 1.  Every individual, partnership, firm,

14  association, corporation, institution and governmental unit,

15  and every combination of any of the foregoing, operating a

16  public hospital in Palm Beach County, Florida, shall be

17  entitled to a lien for all reasonable charges for hospital

18  care, treatment and maintenance of ill or injured persons upon

19  any and all causes of action, suits, claims, counterclaims and

20  demands accruing to the persons to whom such care, treatment

21  or maintenance are furnished, or accruing to the legal

22  representatives of such persons, and upon all judgments,

23  settlements and settlement agreements rendered or entered into

24  by virtue thereof, on account of illness or injuries giving

25  rise to such causes of action, suits, claims, counterclaims,

26  demands, judgment, settlement or settlement agreement and

27  which necessitate or shall have necessitated such hospital

28  care, treatment and maintenance.

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

30  law.
