  2         An act relating to education; creating s.

  3         228.0563, F.S.; authorizing charter conversion

  4         municipal subdistricts; providing requirements

  5         for operation; providing for areas of municipal

  6         jurisdiction; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Section 228.0563, Florida Statutes, is

11  created to read:

12         228.0563  Charter conversion municipal

13  subdistricts.--Pursuant to s. 228.056, but notwithstanding s.

14  228.056(8)(h), upon compliance with s. 228.056(3), a

15  municipality or municipalities may present to the district

16  school board a school or group of schools to be operated by a

17  municipality. Unincorporated areas adjacent to incorporated

18  municipalities may be included in the area of municipal

19  jurisdiction for the purposes of this section if the governing

20  bodies of the municipalities and the county in which the area

21  is located agree on the boundaries of such additional areas.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.

27  Removed provisions that would have: (1) Required district
    school boards to authorize charters requested by a
28  municipality or group of municipalities; (2) Permitted
    municipally appointed charter school boards; and (3) Allowed a
29  municipality to unilaterally decide whether to request a
    charter to operate schools in adjacent unincorporated areas.
