  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the naming of state

  3         buildings and other facilities; amending s.

  4         267.062, F.S.; prohibiting the naming of any

  5         state building, road, bridge, park,

  6         recreational complex, or other similar facility

  7         for any elected public official in office or

  8         any other living person; requiring notice;

  9         providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 267.062, Florida

14  Statutes, is amended to read:

15         267.062  Naming of state buildings and other

16  facilities.--

17         (1)  Except as specifically provided by law, no state

18  building, road, bridge, park, recreational complex, or other

19  similar facility shall be named for any elected public

20  official who is in office or for any other living person.

21         (a)  The sponsor of legislation naming such facilities

22  must provide written notice to the boards of county

23  commissioners of the counties in which the affected facilities

24  are located not later than 3 weeks prior to filing legislation

25  naming a state building, road, bridge, park, recreational

26  complex, or other similar facility for any elected public

27  official who is in office or for any other living person.

28         (b)  A true copy of the notice delivered must be

29  attached to the bill when introduced, but it is not necessary

30  to enter the notice, or proof thereof, in the journals. The

31  fact that the notice was provided to the appropriate boards of

  1  county commissioners must be recited upon the journals of the

  2  Senate and the House of Representatives. The notice must

  3  accompany the bill throughout the legislative process, and

  4  must be preserved as part thereof by the Department of State

  5  for each bill enacted into law.

  6         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  7  law.
