  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Florida Education Fund;

  3         amending s. 240.498, F.S.; revising the

  4         membership of the board of directors of the

  5         Florida Education Fund; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (4) of section

11  240.498, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

12         240.498  Florida Education Fund.--

13         (4)  The Florida Education Fund shall be administered

14  by a board of directors, which is hereby established.

15         (a)  The board of directors shall consist of 13 12

16  members, to be appointed as follows:

17         1.  Two laypersons appointed by the Governor;

18         2.  Two laypersons appointed by the President of the

19  Senate;

20         3.  Two laypersons appointed by the Speaker of the

21  House of Representatives;

22         4.  Three Two representatives of the State University

23  System appointed by the Board of Regents, one of whom shall be

24  a graduate of a program funded by the Florida Education Fund;

25         5.  Two representatives of the State Community College

26  System appointed by the State Board of Community Colleges; and

27         6.  Two representatives of independent colleges or

28  universities appointed by the State Board of Independent

29  Colleges and Universities.

  1  The board of directors may appoint to the board an additional

  2  five members from the private sector for the purpose of

  3  assisting in the procurement of private contributions. Such

  4  members shall serve as voting members of the board.

  5         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
