17 Section 16. Effective July 1, 1999, paragraph (a) of
18 subsection (2) of section 240.4095, Florida Statutes, as
19 amended by section 47 of chapter 98-421, Laws of Florida, is
20 amended to read:
21 240.4095 Florida Private Student Assistance Grant
22 Program; eligibility for grants.--
23 (2)(a) Florida private student assistance grants from
24 the State Student Financial Assistance Trust Fund may be made
25 only to full-time degree-seeking students who meet the general
26 requirements for student eligibility as provided in s.
27 240.404, except as otherwise provided in this section. Such
28 grants shall be awarded for the amount of demonstrated unmet
29 need for tuition and fees and may not exceed an amount equal
30 to the average matriculation and other registration fees for
31 30 credit hours at state universities plus $1,000 per academic

Amendment No.
1 year, or as specified in the General Appropriations Act, to
2 any applicant. A demonstrated unmet need of less than $200
3 shall render the applicant ineligible for a Florida private
4 student assistance grant. Recipients of such grants must have
5 been accepted at a baccalaureate-degree-granting independent
6 nonprofit college or university, which is accredited by the
7 Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges
8 and Schools and which is located in and chartered as a
9 domestic corporation by the state. No student shall receive
10 the Florida Private Student Assistance Grant beyond 110
11 percent of the number of credit hours required to complete the
12 program. Eligibility for the renewal of the Florida Student
13 Assistance Grant shall be evaluated at the end of the second
14 semester or third quarter of each academic year. As a
15 condition for renewal, a student shall meet the institution's
16 established standards of academic progress for financial aid
17 purposes. No student may receive an award for more than the
18 equivalent of 9 semesters or 14 quarters of full-time
19 enrollment, except as otherwise provided in s. 240.404(3).
